Advantages of Alpaca
The properties that make alpaca nature's smartest fiber!
First and foremost, many say alpaca wool, but the is actually alpaca fiber which is simply the alpaca's hair. Alpaca hair is hollow fibers that are very thin and naturally smooth, which makes it super soft and light. At the same time, it insulates from heat and cold.
Little fun fact: Alpaca fiber and polar bear fur have the same ability to insulate when wet.
- Hot: Alpaca fiber 3 times warmer than sheep's wool.
- Water resistant: Alpaca fiber is naturally water-repellent and transports moisture away, keeping the wearer warm and dry.
- Odor resistant: Alpaca fiber contains sulfur and is naturally self-cleaning.
- Allergy friendly: Alpaca fiber does not contain lanolin, which binds dust and bacteria. The therefore perfectly suited for baby clothes and garments for allergy sufferers.
- Luxurious fiber: Naturally smooth and soft that both looks and feels fantastic.
- Easy: Alpaca garments are lighter, at the same time solid and strong.
- Environmentally and animal friendly: Alpaca fiber is sheared in the same way as sheep. In addition, processing alpaca fiber is non-polluting. There are no harmful oils that need to be removed from the fibers.
- Alpaca is 100% natural fiber.
Due to its insulating properties, alpaca is particularly suitable for those with rheumatic complaints and arthritis, and for those who sit still a lot, get cold easily or are outdoors a lot.
All our socks are perfect for those with reduced mobility blood circulation, muscle and joint pains.
Washing and maintenance
How to best take care of your clothes
- Our garments contain sulfur which has self-cleaning properties, so you should always try to air the garment first. Bad smells often disappear quickly when the alpaca garment is allowed to hang freely in the fresh air, so perhaps it is not necessary to wash it after all. A garment that is washed a little less often stays nice for longer.
- Stains can advantageously be treated directly, without washing the entire garment. Gently squeeze with a damp cloth. Do not rub, as the yarn felts easily.
- If the garment needs to be washed, it must be washed using the gentlest method. If your washing machine has a wool cradle, we recommend you use it, if not, hand washing is the best method. Always use a special detergent or normal hair shampoo. Never use fabric softener.
- The garment should be dried flat.
